What is Kardashev scale ? What rank do we hold on it?

The Kardashev scale is a method of measuring a civilization's level of technological advancement based on the amount of energy it is able to use. The measure was proposed by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev in 1964.

The scale is hypothetical, and regards energy consumption on a cosmic scale. Since then various extensions of the scale have been proposed, including a wider range of power levels types 0, IV through V.

The Kardashev scale has three designated categories, these are:

  • A Type I civilization, also called a planetary civilization, can use and store all of the energy available on its planet.

  • A Type II civilization, also called a stellar civilization, can use and control energy at the scale of its planetary system.

  • A Type III civilization, also called a galactic civilization, can control energy at the scale of its entire host galaxy.

1. Type I civilization

Technological level of a civilization that is "close to the level presently attained on Earth, with energy consumption at ≈4×1019erg/sec" (4×1012 watts). Currently, the civilization of Type I is usually defined as one that can harness all the energy that falls on a planet from its parent star (for Earth–Sun system, this value is close to 1.74×1017 watts), which is about four orders of magnitude higher than the amount presently attained on Earth, with energy consumption at ≈2×1013 watts.

2. Type II civilization

A civilization capable of harnessing the energy radiated by its own star—for example, the stage of successful construction of a Dyson sphere or Matrioshka brain—with energy consumption at ≈4×1033 erg/sec. Lemarchand stated this as a civilization capable of using and channeling the entire radiation output of its star. The energy use would then be comparable to the luminosity of the Sun, about 4×1033 erg/sec (4×1026watts).

3. Type III civilization

A civilization in possession of energy at the scale of its own galaxy, with energy consumption at ≈4×1044 erg/sec. Lemarchand stated this as a civilization with access to the power comparable to the luminosity of the entire Milky Way galaxy, about 4×1044 erg/sec (4×1037 watts).

There are some extensions of it too and the most straightforward extension of the scale to even more hypothetical Type IV beings who can control or use the entire universe or Type V who control collections of universes. This would also include Type 0 civilizations, who do not rank on the Kardashev scale. The power output of the visible universe is within a few orders of magnitude of 1045 W. Such a civilization approaches or surpasses the limits of speculation based on current scientific understanding and may not be possible.

According to the scientists seeing the power consumption of the humans on earth , it can be said that we still have a way to become a type 1 civilization , but its good we are not a type 0 civilization , acc. to scientists humans are now a 0.7 civilization and soon will be a type 1 .

5 Mind blowing science fact that you didn't(might) know.

1.The average human body carries ten times more bacterial cells than human cells All the bacteria living inside you could fill a half-gallon jug — there are 10 times more bacterial cells in your body than human cells , according to Carolyn Bohach, a microbiologist at the University of Idaho. Don’t worry, though: most of these bacteria are helpful. In fact, we couldn’t survive without them. 2.Grasshoppers have ears in their bellies Unlike humans, grasshoppers do not have ears on the side of their heads. Like the ears of people, the grasshopper sound detector is a thin membrane called a tympanum, or “eardrum”. In adults, the tympanum is covered and protected by the wings, and allows the grasshopper to hear the songs of its fellow grasshoppers. 3. There is enough DNA in the average person’s body to stretch from the sun to Pluto and back — 17 times There are about 37 trillion cells in the human body, so if you were to uncoil all of the DNA encased in each cell and place the molecule...

Types of Black Holes and there formation.

Some black holes are born when a dying star collapses in on itself. Others through mergers. And some may have started off in an even weirder way. There are namely 4  types of black holes: 1. Stellar-Mass Black Holes The most well-known  black holes , stellar-mass black holes, form when a massive star reaches the end of its life and implodes, collapsing in on itself. If the imploding star is between about eight and 20 times the mass of the Sun, however, it won’t form a black hole. Instead, the collapsing material will rebound off its core, causing it to erupt as a supernova. But if the collapsing star is greater than about 20 times the mass of the Sun, its core isn’t strong enough to stop the implosion. In fact, there is no mechanism that can prevent such a star from collapsing into a black hole. Depending on the initial size of the imploding star, the resulting stellar-mass black hole can reach up to about 100 or more times the mass of the Sun. 2. Intermediate Mass Black Holes...

Let's move the solar system - Stellar Engine

Ever thought of if we made contact with other intelligent life form , how are we gonna meet them physically with all the humans on earth? Don't worry there is a solution , and it is "Stellar Engine". Now what is a stellar engine? Simply put it is a hypothetical megastructure which uses a star's energy to propel or move the star and as the star moves the other planets will also move due the gravity of the star. The concept of Stellar engine was first introduced by Badescu and Cathcart. There are three classes of stellar engines : 1.Class A - Shkadov thruster One of the simplest examples of a stellar engine is the Shkadov thruster, or a Class A stellar engine. Such an engine is a stellar propulsion system, consisting of an enormous mirror/light sail—actually a massive type of solar statite large enough to classify as a megastructure—which would balance gravitational attraction towards and radiation pressure away from the star. Since the radiation pressure of the star wo...
